Freebie: Thankful for...

 

This is a beautiful script with soft, delicate lines. (I used it below in one of the printable 'Thankful for' card designs.)

A sweet little detail for your Thanksgiving table, free 'Thankful for' cards that I designed just for you.

You could use them as place cards with your guests' names written on the opposite side, maybe hole punched and tied with ribbon to a mini pumpkin. 

Have everyone take a moment to right down a few things they are thankful for before you begin the Thanksgiving festivities.

Font Love: Blessed Day

I love this sweet font with all it's swoopy little details. I have used it a lot recently and find it to be very beautiful. Look at the K and L and M... those lines are just gorgeous.

One of the projects I used the font for was this newly designed Happy Thanksgiving card for my Fall Collection.  It has a vintage, retro inspired look that I am loving this fall. 

What better way to celebrate thankfulness than with Philippians 1:3? 

"I thank my God upon every remembrance of you."

Font Love. Font Obsession.

 I am currently obsessed with Guadalupe. It is GORGEOUS. And I want it. 

It is one of the standard fonts used by House Beautiful, my favorite decorating magazine.

Look at that 'd'... I'm drooling.

 The family has about a billion different options with alternatives and swashes. The possibilities are endless.....

Font Love: Rosewood

A font favorite recently has been Rosewood. Use it sparingly as a title or an accent and it becomes a wonderful feature. I used this font for the Father's Day cards our church gave to our wonderful dad's on Father's Day. When used correctly, I think it communicates strength and wisdom. What do you this font say to you? Or am I just crazy and the only one that 'hears' anything from well-designed letters.... ha.

I loved how the cards turned out. We gave each dad a card and a candy bar wrapped in red ribbon.

Font Love: Archer

May I introduce you to my lovely friend, Archer. How I love the super thin lines of this slab-serif and those wonderfully tiny droplets that dangle so effortlessly. Beautiful.

Not that long ago I had the privilege of working on the branding for Alisandra Photography. I do love working with photographers. They are creative, they are passionate, and they are artists... so the relationship is founded upon mutual loves. Together we came up with what is one of my favorite identity creations to date. During the last rounds of revisions Ali came to me with this font as a suggestion for her branding. It was the perfect choice. The beautiful lines of the font bring cohesion from the text to the icon.

The goal throughout the creation process was for the branding to communicate Alisandra Photography's motto:
Relaxed, Romantic, & Real.

Font Love: Agent Orange

Below is a promo piece that I created for our church's Easter Carnival. This is our first year doing something like this for the community and we are super excited. The goal was to attract the young families (the carnival itself is geared to children). So it needed to communicate how cool we are as a church (ha.) and at the same time reach our target audience of little ones. I found this super cute font and after trying a few other options decided that this one was perfect for the job. It is not overly childish or cartoonish, but still has a playful, lighthearted feel. I combined it with the classic Myriad font in bold that contrasts nicely with it's simple and clean lines. I am pleased with how the piece turned out and am happy to have found another font love!

Font Love: Handwriting

I love finding a great handwriting font. When I was in college my art professors were always anti-handwriting fonts for the simple reason that they look fake, which goes against the purpose of a handwritten font in the first place. I get that. But what if it was created from an actual person's handwriting... and used in a minimalistic, natural, organic way? These sort of things should never be over used, like a title is pretty much it (insert: NEVER for body text.) :)

I follow Elise Joy's blog and love it. The other day she posted that her handwriting had been created into a font. So of course I had to click on her link and check it out for myself. Fonts For Peas has lots of really great handwritten fonts for free, and of course I got sucked in.... I probably downloaded 15 fonts. ha. I found a few that I really liked (including Elise's!) and two are below. What do you think? Could you or would you use this for a project you are currently working on?





This one was passed on to me by a sweet friend, Mary, who happens to be a great artist! I wanted to show a great example of a handwritten font (I love this font... it is easy to read but still has the natural feel of a real handwritten note). So, below the font sample is an image of a retreat promotional piece that Mary created the artwork for. It is clean, modern, and beautiful. The font is perfect for this piece as it ties in the organic quality of the illustration with the title. She then used a clean sans-serif for the tag line and extra information. Using a different font for the additional text creates a hierarchy that is easy to understand visually. You see the title first and the remaining text as secondary. What do you think? Font Love: Learning Curve

I love this sweet little font. I used it today for a logo design for a great new shop that is about to make a grand opening on etsy. When the branding is complete and the shop open for business, I will be sure to do a feature! Her work is just fabulous. This script is the perfect cursive. Often, the free scripty or cursive fonts are too scripty and not legible or they look like a man scribbled them across the page. Not to mention that this font is beautifully thought out and designed as each letter connects wonderfully to the next, there are no strange gaps or overlapping letters. To me it communicates a pretty peace. :)

ahhhh... looking at it makes me want to go practice my cursive. Have fun playing with this one!

Font Love & Free Thanksgiving Cards!

I think this font is casual and cute... and one of the best 'handwritten' fonts I have found to date.
I like it so much that I used it on two of the free cards below.
Be careful to use in moderation though, it's one of those that could get old pretty quick. ;)
